A bit of a different post today, looking for some opinions!
I have no idea what I'm doing with my life haha! Does anyone else ever feel like that? I graduated with a First Class Honours in Primary Education in 2010, and completed my probation year by summer 2011. My boyfriend Scott is due to graduate in summer with an Honours Business Degree with Human Resource Management. Since summer, I have been doing supply teaching and have been in a P4 class since February. I love teaching, but I hate supply work and don't think I can hack another year of it if I don't get my own class after summer.
Me and two of my besties at graduation. :)
So Scott and I, we were thinking - why not got to Australia for a year?? He's not got a job lined up, I don't have a job after summer so far, what's holding us back?
Except money, being half way across the world, leaving family and friends, no security of a job there etc... :(
Scott and I lived in California for four months two summers ago and it was the best time of my life.
We stayed in Orange County, and since then have dreamed of going back. However, after research it seems like an impossible dream. Australia is so much more do-able.
Have any of you guys done any travelling before??
So what do you think? Should we go for it? Have you ever taken a big risk? Am I the only one with no clue where my life is going?!
Let me know!
~ Lauren ♥
Wow! Like you, I have NO idea where my life is going to take me. I just work at H&M right now but I don't want to stay there.
ReplyDeleteIf both of you are up for it then why not? It can be expensive living in Aus but if you guys make sure you have jobs lined up before you go then at least you don't have to panic about finding a job once you get there.
You guys are still young, why not? It'd be amazing for you both!
Keep us updated!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels I have no idea where my life is going haha! I think you're a few years younger than me tho so you have an excuse. =p

I say go for it!! I know so many people who have done it and loved it! You are young and have your whole life to settle down. X
ReplyDeleteThanks Karris! I know a few people who are out there, but no one I'm close to that I could really talk to! It's good to hear so many people having great experiences tho. :)

I think you should go for it, i've got two friend who went out to Australia for extended periods and they absolutely loved it and both want to go back. It's a year and you could alway come back if it doesn't work for you but i'd say its definitely worth a try! x
ReplyDeleteWell tbh that's what I've heard as well, everyone who's gone wants to go back - always a good sign! =p

I have no idea what I'm going to do after I finish uni, but if I had the opportunity to move abroad for a bit (especially with my boyfriend in tow) I think I'd jump for it.
ReplyDeleteI love to travel so I guess I'm kinda biased, but if you're not permanently moving out there then there's no restrictions on how long you have to stay out there.
Try writing a list of pros and cons to help you decide what to do?! It's always going to be hard leaving friends and family but at the end of the day I'm sure they'll all be supportive for you and help you whatever you decide to do :) good luck with your decision! xx
That's how I feel, like my family love to try new places and so do I, it's just Australia is SO far! That's honestly the only real thing holding me back. :(

It's only a year, it sounds like an amazing adventure, I say do it!
ReplyDeleteI know, I keep thinking that, a year isn't that long really!! <3
DeleteI agree with everyone here hun. You only live once (cheesy but true!) and you can waste so much time umming and ahhing about these things...probably the whole year you were going to spend out there. At the end of the day it will look great on your C.V, it is a proactive step to find employment, you have a steady partner to go with and to have support from and you have no commitments here. I say get packing :) (and also you can try out the fab Australian makeup and beauty brands and review them for us lol) xx
ReplyDeleteWell that's how I kinda feel, like this year feels like a wasted year for me cause I've just done supply teaching all year and it's been pretty hardgoing. But at the same time, that's a year gone already - I could have been spending that in Australia haha!

honestly if i were you i'd go for the year. its only a year and you'll probably regret it if you don't take the chance. i know if i were you i'd be gone tonight. i'm dying to move to australia. .. so jealous you met horatio!!x
ReplyDeleteHahah yeah, it was pretty cool!!
DeleteIt seems a pretty straight forward process to get into Australia, you should totally do it!! =p

I went for a year after graduating Australia is bloody brilliant go go go
ReplyDeleteOh did you?? I may be tweeting you. =p

Australia is amazing, you should do it now while you don't have anything holding you back!

I know, I have no commitments right now, that's why it's so tempting! =p

I'd say go for it, It'll be an amazing experience and best to go now before you're settled into a job! I'd love to do it! :)

If neither of us get a job lined up for after summer, it's a seeerious possibility we'll be going! :)

Why not eh? It's be an amazing experience for you. You'd probably regret it if you didn't!
ReplyDeleteI knooow, it's still just so far and such a big decision! =/

If the opportunity arises then I say go for it if it is what you both want. Its only for a year right and nows the time to do it when you have limited commitments etc. The experience you gain will be invaluable to both of you and you will have the time of your life. I know if I had this chance and didn't go for it then I would regret it further down the line. Plus if you don't like it then you can always come home, right?

I know, I would always make sure I have enough money for a flight home haha! My experience in California was life-changing, so if it's anything like that I'm defo in! =p

ahh Lauren this is soo exciting! Have you even ever been to Australia before btw? Such a huge commitment to pack up and move-I think you are both really lucky to have each other both be willing to move and not go yourself. I agree with most of the other comments, you are both young and have no jobs keeping you here so why not try something new and travel for a bit? You wouldn't want to look back at this time and think oh God, what if we actually did move? I know of people who tried this 1 year thing, went over hated it and were back within 3 months, and also people who have went over and are still there loving it years on and don't even want to come back to visit! I think it'd be a good idea to obviously sort out living arrangements and possibly job opportunities (Is your teaching degree valid over there? I remember you were saying how it is different in the USA). I'm sure if it didn't work out your parents would be glad to have you back (at least it's a perk that you and Scott don't have your own mortage so will at least have homes to return to).
ReplyDeleteThis is the longest rambliest comment ever, but I think what I'm trying to say is that if you have tried and its just impossible to both get a work visa/green card for life in California where you both truly want to be, then as long as you know that you don't want to be here then Australia is definitely worth a good shot. You will never know if you never try!
I've never been before haha it's just because I figure the lifestyle seems pretty similar to Southern California and that's what I loved about being there, the laid-back, healthy (ish) living! I know, this is pretty much the perfect time to do it, we're lucky we have no commitments or responsibilities and have a lot of support! I'd defo make sure I had enough money to travel home at all times, just in case haha.
DeleteThat's what I figure, we LOVED California but would we just have loved anywhere where we had an experience like that? Maybe Australia can be our new California. =p :)

My dream was to always live in England and I did it 16 years ago. At times it's been a bumpy ride and I won't stay here forever but you don't want to ever say 'I wish had done that' if you have the opportunity. Always live like it's your last day on earth! x
ReplyDeleteAw that's inspirational! Thank you. :)

I say do it! It's a great opportunity, I'm jealous of you really. :P I'd love to live abroad for a year, probably the US if I can get it but we can't go at the moment as the bf is starting his PhD. We have a friend who went to Australia for a year as part of his degree and he loved it! I'd say do it now because you won't be this free of commitments for a very long time, so if you're going to do it, now's the time. :)
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to do this. For me the money is holding me back but I think you should definitely GO FOR IT! :D X
