My California Waves Hairstyle! (John Frieda)

One of my favourite hairstyles of all time is the California Wave. I've always loved it's casual sexiness and the fact that it reminds me of the summer I lived in California! It's so effortlessly chic. Here's some of the girls whose California Waves I covet:

Beeeautiful.

I was contacted recently by a John Frieda PR to see if I would be interested in recreating one of the styles they demonstrate on their YouTube tutorials. I checked it out and there were several tutorials I was interested in, such as the 1940s updo and the Body Blow Dry. As soon as I saw California Waves though, I knew that was the one I wanted to try! You can check out all their tutorials here. They're really good, it shows you the models trying to create the styles themselves rather than just a hairdresser creating it for them as is often the case - we don't all have a live in hairdresser after all (I wish!)!

Here is the video of the style I have tried to recreate:

They make it look so easy and the end result is gorgeous! I was kindly sent out the products used in this tutorial to help me recreate the look:

(L-R) Frizz-Ease Dream Curl Styling Spray, Frizz-Ease Secret Agent Perfecting Creme, Anytime Volume Refresher and Frizz-Ease Miraculous Recovery Intensive Masque.

And here are my step my step results!

Step One
Spritzing on the curling spray (look at that concentration - I need an anti-wrinkle cream on that forehead!!). 'Scuse the lack of make up also!

Step Two
Lion hair after I just rough dried it upside down. I am looking terrified/psychotic for good reason.

Step Three
Half curled with my Babyliss Curling Wand. I know they use tongs in the video, but I don't have any. =/

Step Four
All curled, scrunching Secret Agent Perfecting Creme into the ends and breaking up the curls.

Step Five
All done!

And with makeup:

So what do you think? I know it's a bit tighter, I think that's cause of the curlers I used. Is this a look you would try?
Let me know!

  4. Looks soo nice! I find with the curling wand my hair falls quite quickly and ends up in more of a wave anyway, so I think it's great for this type of look :) It really suits you! xx

    1. Yeah, you're right, that's true. It did sort of 'relax' a bit and I liked it better like that, less structured!

  11. i like hairstyles i want to say that i can serme whole life to the hairstyles i can easily do this i like it.hairstyles are a primitive one and often linked with the popular and demanding styles in 60s and 70s both in men and women. A hairstyles parallel hairstyles approach is still followed for girls and women in modern hairstyles amazing hairstyle with a little untidy that confers a mens hair styles rock & roll look to your hair. This curly hairstyles. style has gone through slight changes over the time. Unlikely to older styles.
