Sigma Review - Face Brushes

So I wrote Part One of this a wee while ago, which introduced my new Sigma makeup brushes to you (click here if you need a recap). Since washing them and waiting the day or two for them to dry (ugh) I finally got a chance to try them out. I'm gonna tell you a little bit about what I think of each brush

Each of these brushes can be purchased individually or in sets, at Sigma Beauty.

I was going to do all the brushes in one post, but I think it's a bit too long so I'm splitting it into two. This is for the FACE BRUSHES.

Top to bottom: F30 Large Powder, F40 Large Angled Contour, F50 Duo Fibre, F60 Foundation and F70 Concealer.

F30 Large Powder Brush
After applying foundation, I dust loose powder over my face with this brush. It's denser than my old Sephora powder brush and does the job well! It feels lovely and soft on my skin. There's a slight bit of shedding but not much! It takes foreeever to dry, but I expected that because it's so dense.

F40 Large Angled Contour
I was reeeally looking forward to this brush, but I have to say I'm quite disappointed with it! It doesn't seem to pick up my blusher very well (Nars Orgasm) and barely transfers any to my cheeks at all. I have to go over my cheeks a gazillion times to see any colour. It's also very soft, so the contour shape doesn't hold well. Not my favourite. :(

F50 Duo Fibre
I was suuuper excited by this one and I think I still am! Sorry it's so grubby, this is obv after it's been used. I had never used a stippling brush before and had to look up how to use it (such a n00b! =p) but I have been trying it out and I really do like it! I will definitely keep using this to apply my foundation. The black, natural hair bristles are sturdy and don't move and the synthetic hair swirls around to blend but stays resistant whilst stippling, so I'm happy with the quality of this! I heard about some colour running when it's getting cleaned, but I never had that problem. One of my favourites!

F60 Foundation
I'm not sure there was a huge need to include both F50 and F60 in this set as I would assume people would use one or the other? As I've chosen to use the duo fibre stippling brush over this synthetic foundation brush, I don't have a huge use for it. I've started to use it to apply my primer though and it's very sort and spreads the primer smoothly and evenly, so I'll probably continue to use it for that.

F70 Concealer
The guide booklet says this is for under your eyes and blemishes, but I use Rimmel Hide the Blemish concealer which is a stick, so I just apply that straight to my under eye area! I am looking for a new concealer though, so I might get one which would work better with this brush so I can get more use out of it!

In conclusion, I do actually use all of my face brushes just now, but my favourite is definitely F50 and the one I'm most disappointed by is F40. Maybe I'm using it wrong? :( I'm still super excited to have these brushes though and I do feel that my base make up looks a lot more flawless now!

Oh and I quickly wanna show you my new toy - a Gorillapod Tripod!!

So, there we go. Hope this was helpful and not too long! =p What are your thoughts on Sigma? Have you tried any/ would you like to? What is your brush of choice?
Let me know!

  1. Lovely post. Shame about a few of the brushes. I was thinking of getting this set but I got a different set from a different brand for Christmas anyway which I love! A LOT cheaper but does the job :)

  2. @Sian - I'm sure with a bit of practice I'll be able to use them all properly, it's just cause I'm so unexperienced. Oh, what brand? Cause I want to buy a kabuki brush but I can't afford to get it shipped from USA through Sigma!

  3. I need a full Sigma set in my life! I've only picked up a few brushes here and there, I actually really like my angled contour brush for blush! I'm a bit haphazard at applying blusher as it is so I appreciate it not picking up loads of product in the one go so I can build it. I have the exact same problem with the F30, it sheds SO much. Such a shame since I don't want to fork out all that money for the MAC equivalent, but I need to pick off at least 5 brush hairs everytime I use the F30 so I feel like I need the upgrade! xxx

  4. @Gill - maybe I just need to practise more with F40, I think I'm just so used to my old cheap-as-chips blusher brush just slapping the blusher on that I expect this to do the same! Blusher is something I am ruuubbish at applying anyways, gonna try some contouring soon tho!

  6. @Dani - haha, do you like it?? I thought it was cute! It's a Joby Gorillapod, we got a big one for my dad's SLR camera years ago but mine is just a mini one. It won't let me paste the link cause I'm on my phone but just search for Joby gorillapod in amazon, there's loads of sizes and colours! Think mine was about £13 delivered maybe. ^_^

  7. Wow, so sorry to hear about the F40! That brush looks really sad and dinky in your photo. I'm surprised, coming from Sigma. Every Sigma brush I've come across I love, and haven't experienced shedding. I was surprised to hear that about your powder brush. Looking forward to your review of eye brushes!

  8. I need to get the f50! For a blush brush I've been loving the F05 - small contour. It picks up product and blends so well and super soft! :D

  10. @Jenn - there really wasn't very much shedding, and tbh I kind of expected it the first time I used it! F40 was kind of sad tho. :(

@Lucy - Oooh, I'll need to look into the F05, sounds so nice!

@Sarah - I'm still very much learning how to use them! My fingers were my make up brushes before. =p

@Manuela - Aw, that's awesome, thank you! I will have a look at your blog too. ^_^
