MUA Nail Constellations.. All of 'em!! =p

As soon as the MUA Nail Constellations were released, I knew I had to have them. Considering one Ciate Nail Caviar is £18, £15 for all five MUA shades was a pretty decent bargain to me. I have never tried this form of nail art before, so I was pretty excited.

Just for a disclaimer here, this post is not going to show you the Constellations in their full glory. This post will just show you my first attempt and the process I underwent. Trust me, these babies are really pretty and you can go onto the official MUA blog to see how they look, properly, on gorgeous long nails, not wee stubs like mine.

But anyways, my experience...

They really are pretty, and there is SO MUCH in every bottle, these will last you forever. However, there is a LOT of spillage when applying these, so I set up a little 'Constellation Station' - nothing fancy, just a folded piece of paper opened back up, with something underneath each side of the paper to ensure all spillage falls into the middle crease. Ta da!
Haha, told you it was nothing fancy. Worked a treat tho. The application process is relatively easy, you apply your chosen nail polish base colour and allow it to dry, before painting on a thicker second coat which you'll sprinkle the Constellations on to. I struggled with my first attempt, I was way too cautious and I couldn't get any beads out! Don't be afraid to SHAKE that wee bottle. Beads will come pouring out, but your Constellation Station (ha) will catch them all.

I didn't like to press down on the beads to seal them with my finger as some came off, so I pressed my nails down onto all the spilled beads that had collected on my paper. That worked really well. You then remove the top of the bottle and either using the funnel or just the paper you've shaken over, return the extra beads to the bottle. Easy.

Just for a simple contrast, I painted one hand with a white base and one hand with a black base. This was my messy attempt (thumb nails are rotten because I was too scared to shake lots of beads out). The left picture is always on the white base and the right picture is of the black base.
I put Seche Vite on my thumb, index and middle finger, but I kinda wish I hadn't as, as you might be able to see, it kinda spoils the affect. On my other two fingers, I just sealed the tip of my nail with Seche Vite and after a few hours I have had no drop offs.

Left - white base, Right- black base

As I said, my nails are too short and my first attempt too cautious and messy for this to show how pretty these actually are. For £3 each, I really recommend them. I love all the colours to be honest, can't wait to try them with different bases!
Natural light (left - white base, right - black base)

You can buy thesefor £3 each in your local Superdrug or online HERE.

What do you think? Have you tried Caviar nails? Would you try these? Which Constellation is your favourite?

MUA Lipgloss Review & ELF Goodies

I'm just back from London town, yay! Had a wee six day holiday there, will blog about it soon but for now here's a post I thought I'd scheduled for when I was away, but clearly didn't get posted. Hm. Oh well! =p

Some of you may have read about the awesome goodie bag I got sent from More! Magazine (check it out here) and I wanted to share a few things with you over time. Today, I'm gonna show you the MUA lipglosses I received, which retail for £1 each. I have tried some MUA products, but never lip products. I was sent three of the new Out There Plumping Lipglosses:
L-R Sienna, Peach Shimmer and Shocking Pink
They come with the standard applicator, but I had to work quite hard to actually get any product onto it.
Here are the swatches:
The most wearable for me is definitely Peach Shimmer. The colours go on true to swatching, and sit 'on' the lip rather than kind of adapting to your lip tone like some lip products do. They lasted a decent amount of time, nothing startling. They made my lips tingle a wee bit, no noticeable plumping action tho, although I rarely find lip plumpers to actually work.

These will not become my go-to lipglosses. But to experiment with some different colours, for £1 you can hardly go wrong.

I also got a few ELF products recently. One is the Mint Green nail varnish, which I posted about in my last NOTD here, and I'm gonna show you the other two now. One is an eyeshadow primer because I'm desperate for one after my UD Primer Potion ran out and my ELF Eyelid Primer turned out to be just 'meh'. I thought I'd give ELF another try, and bought the Studio Eye Primer and Liner Sealer (£3.50).  Here it is:

I actually really like this style. On one side is 'prime', which is a twist up solid, crayon style primer that glides on fairly easily, with a very small amount of dragging. One the other end is 'seal', which is one of those little nibs that you can dip into any eyeshadow to make it a liner. I doubt I'll use this side. Here's an example of some eyeshadows over the primer:

Left of each photo is without primer, right is over primer.
Left photo shows Urban Decay Naked/Naked2 Palette shade Half Baked, and right photo shows Urban Decay Naked2 Palette shade Bootycall

I'm impressed with this, the colours look much more intense. And here's the test results, photo on left is five minutes after I've put my makeup on in the morning, and pic on right is about eleven hours later:

Sorry about the lighting differences, just due to different times of day.

Not too bad huh? There was a bit of creasing on the lid but I think I have unusually crease-y eyelids anyways haha!  I'm actually quite excited about this product! I think it could defo become a staple in my daily routine! :)

I had to buy one last thing to get free delivery in ELF haha so I opted for the All Over Colour Stick in Golden Peach (£1.50). I have yellow undertones and in summer I tan really well, so I figured a nice peachy bronzer would look nice!

It has a lovely smell (in my opinion anyways) and is quite shimmery. I've read mixed reviews on this, but it was only a few pounds and I'll need to wait until I have a bit of a tan before I can try it out for myself! The swatch looks quite pretty tho:

So what do you think of these products? Are you a fan of cheaper brands, like MUA and ELF (they love abbreviations, don't they??)?

MUA-mazing? :)

I know, I know, MUA has been around for ages and has long been a favourite of beauty bloggers. There's so many things that I've read about and wanted, but I've not got any particularly large MUA stands near me so they don't have any of the things I've lusted after.

Until, dun dun duuuun! I discovered a big stand in the Superdrug in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow. I managed to pick up the Heaven & Earth Palette (even though I have two Nakeds and a Naked2) and also the Primer and 3-in-1 Contour Pen.

I'm sure you've all heard the comparisons between Naked and Heaven & Earth so I won't go into that, but I do know the shades are similarly gorgeous colours and very pigmented. I'm not doing swatches, as I'm going to keep this for part of a wee giveaway I think. But it's preeeetty.

I was actually looking for the eye primer, but couldn't see it, so face primer it is. This is something I've been researching into a lot recently. I currently use 17 Photo Flawless Primer but it's a tiny tiny tube and has nearly run out, so I was looking for a new primer. I had my eye on either Smashbox Photofinish or Stila One Step, but this little MUA one will hopefully do for now!

It was much more liquidy than I expected, and doesn't leave that delicious velvety finish that my previous primer did. However, it absorbed well and left my skin feeling smooth and soft. I've not had a chance to test longevity yet, but I'm hopeful as MUA products all seem good value for money.

The 3-in-1 eXtreme Contour Eye Pen I picked up because I have a new obssession with eyeliner. I'll be doing a post on this more indepth, so I'll leave you now just with a little swatch:

As you can see, the shape of the nib allows you to control the thickness of the line, which is pretty cool. Unfortunately it's not very pigmented so these lines have been gone over twice. It also seemed to smudge quite easily, but that was on my hand. I'll try it on my eyes and let you know!

MUA Heaven & Earth Palette (£4), Primer (£4) and 3-in-1 eXtreme Contour Eye Pen (£1.50) all available instore at Superdrug or online here or here.

What do you think of my very first MUA products? Did I pick well? What else should I try?

Secret Santa Shopping Guide!!

Holidays are coming, holidays are coming.... I'm feeling a bit Christmassy!!

I know a lot of people do Secret Santas (my friends and I do) so I thought I'd be the super nice person I am and give you some ideas if you're struggling! I'm also doing this because I'm trying to cut down on shopping for myself just now, for two main reasons:

a) I am skinto. To the extreme.
b) I always feel bad buying myself things near Christmas. What if someone has bought me that? And shouldn't I be spending my money on other people??

So, I am creating a mini gift guide for £10 and £20 budgets! As you can see, I've been a wee bit relaxed with prices (eg something for £10.20 I've put under the £10 section) and obviously some items could have fit under different 'friend' categories, so just have a little look and enjoy (you can click on the pictures to make them bigger!)!
All prices are correct as of November 23rd 2011, and do not include P&P costs.

Got £10 to spend?

The 'Find me a Naked dupe and I'll love you forever' Beauty Friend:

The 'I can't live without my Wii/Mac/multi-flavour coffee machine' Gadget Friend:

The 'I'm saving the world one paper bag at a time!' Nature-Loving Friend:

The 'Pink & Sparkly & Fluffy make me happy!' Girlie Friend:

The 'Just buy me whatever. Or don't buy me anything. Whatever.' Awkward Friend:
